In Thailand, tolls serve as the gateway to smooth travel along the motorways encircling Bangkok and spanning highways 7, 9, and 34 to the south and east of Bangkok. What is an easy pass in Thailand?
EASY PASS[1] is the title of the card used in the Electronic Toll Collection System or ETC., that is the latest technology of the system of the Expressway Authority of Thailand (Kor. Tor. Por.). At many toll booths, you'll see a building on the left. It's an expressway office where you can buy an Easy Pass.
How to pay tolls in Thailand?
There are three main methods for paying tolls in Thailand:
- Cash: This is the most traditional method and is accepted at all toll booths. Having the exact amount of baht ready can help avoid delays.
- Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) systems: There are two main ETC systems in Thailand:
- M-Pass/EasyPass[2]: These are onboard units that are affixed to your vehicle's windshield. The toll fee is automatically deducted from your prepaid account as you drive through the toll booth.
- M-Flow[3]: This is a newer system that uses automatic license plate recognition. You don't need an on-board unit, but you do need to register your vehicle and payment method with the M-Flow system. Unregistered users who drive through M-Flow gates will receive a bill and have a short window to pay to avoid penalties.
How much is the Bangkok Expressway?
At the Chalong Rat Expressway, the toll for regular vehicles is 45 baht. For vehicles with six to 10 wheels, the toll is 65 baht, and for those with more than 10 wheels, it's 90 baht. On the Burapha Withi Expressway, the toll for regular vehicles has increased to 80 baht. Vehicles with six to 10 wheels now pay 165 baht, and those with more than 10 wheels pay 245 baht.
