Mexico has extensive toll roads, highways and other toll facilities across all its states except in Aguascalientes. The toll roads are called ‘Cuota’ while the parallel-running free roads are called ‘Libre’. The major toll roads are:
- Highway 1D
- Monterrey – Nuevo Laredo (Highways 85D)
- Monterrey – Saltillo (Highway 40D)
- Highway 101
- Chamapa-Lechería (Highway 57D)
Click on the Federal Entity's name below to see its list of highways, toll payment methods and more.
Driving on Mexico toll roads can be expensive as toll costs range from MX$ 25 to 150 MX$ (approximately US$ 2.50-15) for passenger cars.
Use the Mexico Toll Calculator to calculate tolls and gasoline cost to drive across Mexico. It can also be used to trace your route between point-to-point.
How much are toll booth cost in Mexico
The toll booth cost in Mexico varies for each toll facility and vehicle category. However, the toll cost of the 1D toll road is fixed at 40 pesos for all the vehicles.
Below is the toll cost to travel by car between some of the major cities on the fastest highway:
From | To | Tolls for Cars (MX$) |
---|---|---|
Acapulco | Cuernavaca | 626 |
Cuernavaca | Mexico | 122 |
Toluca | Naucalpan | 127 |
Pachuca | Irapuato | 479 |
Guadalajara | Tepic | 441 |
Tuxpan | Tampico | 176 |
Monterrey | Nuevo Laredo | 282 |
Refer to the SCT website[1] to see the SCT booth rates for all their toll roads, toll bridges and other toll facilities.
Alternatively, you can also use TollGuru Toll Calculator to know the toll cost for your route.

Do note that not all toll booths accept all the 5 toll passes. U.S. dollars and credit cards are not accepted on most of the toll roads except near some tourist places.
It is recommended to keep your toll ticket during travel, as it serves as a token of insurance en route.
IAVE Pass Mexico
Main article: IAVE for Mexico
IAVE (automatic vehicle identification) tag transponder is one of the most common toll passes in Mexico. With this mounted on your vehicle, you need not stop to pay the tolls. It is primarily used on CAPUFE toll roads but is also valid on other roads. You can buy an IAVE pass online[2], over the phone or from their point-of-sale locations.
