<h3 style="font-size: 20px; font-weight: bold; color: #202122; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; margin: 15px 0 8px 0;">Can I avoid Oregon tolls completely?</h3>

<h3 style="font-size: 20px; font-weight: bold; color: #202122; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; margin: 15px 0 8px 0;">Can I use E-ZPass in Oregon?</h3>
<p style="font-size: 16px; color: #202122; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; line-height: 1.6; margin: 8px 0;">Yes, but with significant time penalties. The nearest toll-free Columbia River crossings are at The Dalles (20 miles east) and Portland (60 miles west). Detour times range from 40-150 minutes depending on your route.</p>
+
<p style="font-size: 16px; color: #202122; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; line-height: 1.6; margin: 8px 0;">No. Oregon uses its own BreezeBy system at both bridges. E-ZPass and other out-of-state transponders are not accepted. Washington state's Good To Go! tag is also not accepted at these bridges.</p>

<h3 style="font-size: 20px; font-weight: bold; color: #202122; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; margin: 15px 0 8px 0;">What happens if I don't pay Oregon tolls?</h3>

<h3 style="font-size: 20px; font-weight: bold; color: #202122; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; margin: 15px 0 8px 0;">What happened to the I-205 toll project?</h3>
<p style="font-size: 16px; color: #202122; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; line-height: 1.6; margin: 8px 0;">At Hood River Bridge: unpaid tolls result in invoice mailed to registered owner (30 days), then $25 late fee (60 days), then collections (90 days). Oregon DMV holds may be placed on vehicle registrations.</p>
+
<p style="font-size: 16px; color: #202122; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; line-height: 1.6; margin: 8px 0;">Governor Kotek indefinitely postponed I-205 and I-5 tolling in March 2024 citing cost concerns and lack of public support. The 2025 legislative session did not restore funding. There is no active timeline for Portland-area highway tolling as of 2026.</p>

<p style="font-size: 16px; color: #202122; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; line-height: 1.6; margin: 8px 0;">Yes, motorcycles pay the same 2-axle vehicle rates as cars: $1.75 BreezeBy/$3.50 cash at Hood River Bridge and $1.25 BreezeBy/$3.00 cash at Bridge of the Gods.</p>
+
<p style="font-size: 16px; color: #202122; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; line-height: 1.6; margin: 8px 0;">Yes. Motorcycles are classified as 2-axle vehicles and pay the standard passenger rate ($1.75 BreezeBy / $3.50 plate at Hood River; $1.25 BreezeBy / $3.00 cash at Bridge of the Gods).</p>

<h3 style="font-size: 20px; font-weight: bold; color: #202122; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; margin: 15px 0 8px 0;">What happened to the I-205 toll project?</h3>

<h3 style="font-size: 20px; font-weight: bold; color: #202122; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; margin: 15px 0 8px 0;">Can I avoid Oregon tolls completely?</h3>
<p style="font-size: 16px; color: #202122; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; line-height: 1.6; margin: 8px 0;">Governor Kotek indefinitely postponed all major Oregon toll projects in March 2024. The legislature will consider alternative funding sources in 2025, but no timeline exists for resuming toll implementations.</p>
+
<p style="font-size: 16px; color: #202122; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; line-height: 1.6; margin: 8px 0;">Yes — both bridges are the only toll facilities in the state, and both serve the Columbia River corridor specifically. All Oregon interstates (I-5, I-84, I-205, US-97) are completely toll-free. Avoid the Hood River and Cascade Locks crossings to pay nothing.</p>

<h3 style="font-size: 20px; font-weight: bold; color: #202122; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; margin: 15px 0 8px 0;">Do tourists get different rates in Oregon?</h3>

<p style="font-size: 16px; color: #202122; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; line-height: 1.6; margin: 8px 0;">No, tourists pay the same rates as residents. However, setting up a temporary BreezeBy account for visits longer than 2-3 days will provide immediate savings of $1.75 per crossing.</p>

Oregon Toll Roads, Bridges and BreezeBy Complete Guide

System: BreezeBy electronic tolling + cash (Hood River now cashless; Bridge of the Gods cash still accepted)
Coverage: 2 Columbia River bridges only — Hood River-White Salmon and Bridge of the Gods
Currency: US Dollar (USD)
Technology: BreezeBy transponders, license plate recognition (Hood River), cash booths (Bridge of the Gods)
Operators: Port of Hood River; Port of Cascade Locks

Do I Need BreezeBy for Oregon? 2026 Update

No — but you'll save 50–58% per crossing with BreezeBy. Oregon has only two toll bridges, both crossing the Columbia River between Oregon and Washington. Hood River Bridge converted to fully electronic tolling on April 1, 2025, eliminating its cash booths permanently. The Bridge of the Gods still accepts cash.

Key Reality: Without BreezeBy you pay $3.50 at Hood River (billed via license plate) and $3.00 at Bridge of the Gods (cash), versus $1.75 and $1.25 respectively with BreezeBy.

2026 Update: Oregon's I-205 and I-5 urban tolling projects remain indefinitely postponed following Governor Kotek's March 2024 decision. The 2025 legislative session did not revive them. Oregon's toll footprint remains limited to the two Columbia River bridges. A $200 million federal grant has been awarded for eventual replacement of the Hood River Bridge.

Oregon Toll Costs: Current Rates (2026)

Bridge BreezeBy Rate Cash / Plate Rate Savings
Hood River–White Salmon Interstate Bridge $1.75 $3.50 (license plate billing only — no cash since Apr 1 2025) 50%
Bridge of the Gods (Cascade Locks) $1.25 $3.00 (cash accepted) 58%

Commercial Vehicle Rates (2026)

Vehicle Type Hood River BreezeBy Hood River Cash/Plate Bridge of the Gods BreezeBy Bridge of the Gods Cash
2-axle (car, pickup) $1.75 $3.50 $1.25 $3.00
3+ axle trucks/RVs (per axle) $3.00/axle $4.00/axle $2.00/axle $3.00/axle
Box trucks/large RVs $10.50 $14.00 $5.25 $7.00

How to Pay Oregon Tolls

1. BreezeBy Electronic System (Recommended):

  • Works on both Oregon toll bridges; 50–58% savings versus cash/plate rates
  • First transponder free; additional transponders $5.00
  • Account setup online or at Port offices; automatic account replenishment available
  • E-ZPass and other out-of-state transponders are not accepted

2. Cash Payment (Bridge of the Gods only):

  • Bridge of the Gods: staffed toll booth still accepts cash ($3.00 for 2-axle vehicles)
  • Credit cards also accepted at Bridge of the Gods (additional fees may apply)
  • Hood River Bridge: cash eliminated permanently April 1, 2025 — license plate billing only

3. License Plate Tolling (Hood River only):

  • Automatic plate recognition system at Hood River Bridge since April 1, 2025
  • 14-day payment window at full $3.50 rate; $3.00 administrative fee added after 14 days
  • Pay online via Port of Hood River website

Recent Changes (2026)

  • Hood River Bridge — fully cashless (April 1, 2025): All cash toll booths permanently removed; middle lanes closed; BreezeBy or license plate billing only
  • $200 million federal grant awarded for eventual Hood River Bridge replacement — design and environmental review in progress
  • I-205 and I-5 tolling projects: Indefinitely postponed by Governor Kotek, March 2024; 2025 legislature did not revive them; $400 million Abernethy Bridge funding gap unresolved
  • Bridge of the Gods: No rate changes in 2026; tribal member toll-free program continues

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use E-ZPass in Oregon?

No. Oregon uses its own BreezeBy system at both bridges. E-ZPass and other out-of-state transponders are not accepted. Washington state's Good To Go! tag is also not accepted at these bridges.

What happened to the I-205 toll project?

Governor Kotek indefinitely postponed I-205 and I-5 tolling in March 2024 citing cost concerns and lack of public support. The 2025 legislative session did not restore funding. There is no active timeline for Portland-area highway tolling as of 2026.

Do motorcycles pay tolls in Oregon?

Yes. Motorcycles are classified as 2-axle vehicles and pay the standard passenger rate ($1.75 BreezeBy / $3.50 plate at Hood River; $1.25 BreezeBy / $3.00 cash at Bridge of the Gods).

Can I avoid Oregon tolls completely?

Yes — both bridges are the only toll facilities in the state, and both serve the Columbia River corridor specifically. All Oregon interstates (I-5, I-84, I-205, US-97) are completely toll-free. Avoid the Hood River and Cascade Locks crossings to pay nothing.
