Tolls in Florida can be paid via tags, cash and video toll by plate as well. But do note that not all the three methods are available such as SunPass, E-Pass, Leeway, GIBA Toll Pass, Cash or TOLL-BY-PLATE.
However, please note that not all the payment methods are acceptable on all the toll facilities. However, SunPass works in most of the toll roads and bridges across Florida and offers best discount making it the preferred mode of toll payment. You can travel on CFX roads using E-Pass.
Pay toll by toll tags in Florida
SunPass
The SunPass[1] is an electronic tag that you can install in your windshield to zoom through electronic toll gantries. The prepaid toll payment facility can be used to pay tolls on Florida’s toll roads, express lanes, bridges and toll roads.
Most bridges in Florida accept SunPass except the following three:
- Card Sound Bridge (SunPass coming March 2018)
- Gasparilla Bridge / Boca Grande Swing Bridge (Cash & Giba-Toll-Pass)
- Hammock Dunes Bridge (Cash & Express Card program pass)
It requires purchase and activation of a SunPass Portable transponder. This is attached to the windshield of your vehicle. Tolls are automatically deducted from the account linked to the transponder when the vehicle passes through toll lanes. Find more information about the SunPass.
E-Pass
An E-Pass is a small electronic transponder that is used to pay tolls for trips on toll roads, tunnels and bridges in Florida and other toll roads where it is accepted. You don’t need to stop to pay a toll; it'll automatically deduct relevant amount every time you cross an elctronic toll plaza.
LeeWay
You can pay Lee county tolls in Florida with a LeeWay transponder. With a Leeway transponder you will be eligible for various discount programs at Leeway locations such as:
- Cape Coral Bridge
- Midpoint Memorial Bridge
- Sanibel Causeway
The LeeWay prepaid account provides the benefit of Variable Pricing. This gives a 25% reduction on tolls during off-peak hours, Monday through Friday. Motorists without a transponder will be billed via license plate imaging.
GIBA Pass
The GIBA Pass or the Gasparilla Island Bridge Authority Pass is for tolls across the Gasparilla Island Bridge.
Pay toll by Toll-By-Plate in Florida
If you do not have a transponder for travel on Florida’s network of toll roads, bridges and expressways or, if you are on a toll road where you cannot pay using cash, then you will get billed by Toll-by-plate.
